Healing Myocardial Infarct
head>
This micrograph shows a transmural transverse section of a left ventricular infarction. At approximately 3 weeks of evolution the dead myocytes have been removed by macrophages and there is distinct early fibroplasia with loose connective tissue deposition which imparts a pale “alveolar” look to the compact zone myocardium (red dotted line). There are similar areas also present in the trabecular myocardium. A small area of subepicardial myocardium remains viable, as well as some areas in the subendocardial trabecular myocardium.
